National Urban-Rural Development Initiative (NURDI) was Established via Act 12 as amended by Act 50 of 1999 during Nigeria fourth republic on 17 NOV 1999.The ministry was initiated by President Olusegun Obasanjo to promote equal development of Nigeria society;
Therefore, from inception, NURDI has been tackling development related issues through the establishment of concrete structures and measures.

Such measures as the education of the public in order to raise their level of awareness and to promote their economic empowerment, with continuous over-whelming support from the Federal Government and other stake-holders, NURDI will continue to improve in its capability and effectiveness to discharge its mission passionately.

Public health risk assessment and interventions:
The purpose of this public health risk assessment is to provide health professionals, nongovernmental organizations, donor agencies and local authorities currently working in areas with populations affected by water borne diseases in Nigeria, with up-to-date technical guidance on the major public health threats.
This provision, alongside others, is routinely ignored by our leaders. Yet, the nation is never short of assurances that the objectives will be fulfilled. What the country needs now is strong political will to translate provisions of the constitution on employment and other issues into action.

Role of the Environment on Agricultural and Rural Development:
The 2010 MDG report states that the proportion of the Nigerian population living below the hunger threshold increased from 29% to 33% between 2000 and 2009, implying little prospect of achieving the 2015 target of 14.5%.
