We provide advice on technology strategy to innovative companies with a focus on smart energy, smart buildings, and the Internet of things. Our strength is in strategic technology consulting services in standards, building operations, and new energy. Our original focus was on intelligent buildings and their interactions with the world around them. This has become a foundation for developing market-based approaches for consumer-driven smart energy.
What We Do
We apply the practices and methods of enterprise IT and the internet to the systems and devices that surround us in our businesses, our industries, and our homes. By applying the principles of service oriented architecture (SOA) and service integration to embedded building systems, we defined the Service Oriented Building. The Service Oriented Building is a key participant in smart grids and in new energy.
We help developers, technologists, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists understand how enterprise interactivity and smart energy are creating tomorrow’s opportunities. We advise technology developers on product development to align with emerging markets. We apply our perspective on interactions between autonomous systems, honed while supporting NIST in developing the national smart grid roadmap, to help our clients become first movers in smart energy.
We assist executives of established enterprises to understand the challenges and opportunities of smart buildings and smart energy. We assist those who build, own, or operate buildings to develop plans for verifiable sustainable buildings that are full participants in new energy.
We believe strongly in the power of open standards to promote interoperability and create markets. Interoperability promotes market growth and wealth creation through innovation. Innovation can be destructive to the business that clings to old business models during. We offer advice to help the established business catch and ride the wave of creative destruction and rebirth to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
Outlook
We see this as a time of rare opportunity. Financial and economic pressures are removing the advantages held by the giants of the second industrial revolution. Fear and uncertainty have convinced the timid to play it safe. At the same time, the IT and communications revolutions of the last decades have not yet reached the potentially much larger Internet of things, a term that embraces building systems, appliances, sensors, facility operations, transportation, and energy.
