Fifth Annual Fundraiser Gala

Gemini Health Care Group’s Fifth Annual Fundraiser Gala was held at the Sheraton Pentagon City (formerly Sheraton National Hotel) in Arlington, Virginia on Saturday March 9, 2013. The Gala was a great success, with over three hundred people from across the United States joining us to support Gemini’s various activities.
Dr. Irwin Redlener, President and Co-Founder of the Children’s Health Fund, set the tone for the evening as the key note speaker. He shared with the audience his first visit to Ethiopia in the mid 80’s as an emissary for the We are the World famine relief effort. He also stressed the importance of everyone’s collective responsibility to safeguard the wellbeing of children and help them achieve their potentials.

The evening’s other speaker, Dr. Ebba K. Ebba, Founder and President of the Gemini Health Care Group, gave an update on the State of Gemini over the last twelve months, as well as the growth and transformation of the organization over the past four years. Finally, he shared with audience several new initiatives, including Gemini’s strategic partnership with RISE, a U.S based organization dedicated to developing an integrated hospital and health systems in Ethiopia.

The Organization also honored the 2013 outstanding individuals who have made tremendous contributions in the areas of education, research, public health and community service nationally and internationally The awardees were: the late Professor Bekele Afessa, and the late Professor Taye Mekuria for their long and distinguished career in medicine; Mr.Melakou Guirbo of Washington, D.C a community service award for his outstanding work in helping mentor youth in the Washington Metropolitan area. The honorees and their families were present to receive their awards at the Gala.
Gemini’s supporters were very generous with their time, in-kind donations as well as financial contributions, as evidenced by the size of the crowd, and by their participation at the evening’s various activities. Moreover, organizing an event of such magnitude could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Gemini’s volunteers and Board Members. There are not enough words to describe our heartfelt appreciation of our volunteers and supporters. On behalf of children of Ethiopia whose lives we are trying to affect positively, we thank you very much.
