Sean Esker reaches 400th win milestone LAprepSoccer.net, Jonathan Rednour Updated: Jan 27 2013, Monday When it comes to being “elite” status, reaching the milestone of 400 wins in your coaching career is one that defines it perfectly. Sean Esker of Mandeville high school has just added that notch to his belt joining the likes of Jason Oertling (St. Louis) and Shelley MacMallion (Calvary) as the only active coaches who have attained this feat. “I think it’s very humbling to look at that number (400) and translate that to a lot of very special players who have played for me over the past 17 years,” Esker said. Sean Esker’s coaching career started at Jesuit as an assistant to the late Gary Ortner. “Gary knew that soccer is about the players on the field and putting them in positions to be successful both on the field and off the field. He never once made soccer about himself as a coach at all. Everything was always about the opportunities for the boys on the team to be successful. I try to do the same still today and remember that the girls will remember some wins and losses here or there, but there’s a lot more that they can learn from high school soccer than just regular season and post-season results,” Esker said. Sean helped lead the Blue Jays to a state title in 1995 and a semifinal appearance in 1996.Read more...
