We will start with dressage as usual, but there will only be one jumping phase-at about half the distance of a normal XC beginning with stadium jumps and continuing on to cross country obstacles outside that will not cross the driveway. The dressage and jumping phases will be scored together with MCTA's usual ribbons to 8th place and fabulous prizes. Levels will range from Elementary through Novice and perpetual trophies will be awarded to MCTA members, although placings will not count toward year end high score awards. In addition to the derby, competitors will have the opportunity to ride additional dressage tests and to school most of our traditional cross country course. We anticipate all the portables not being used in the derby, some banks, the water, and the wide ditch will be available-there just won't be room to combine them into a properly flowing course. We will have the usual unmounted how-to clinic the day before the derby (July 5), and there will be a previously-scheduled cross country school on June 29 as well as the day of the Derby!You can compete for FREE!!Volunteering is the best way to earn MCTA Bucks that you can use toward your entry fee. $25 for a full day of help; $10 for part of day. Call Chris Donovan 410-409-2255 to get an assignment for before, during, and/or after the event.PERPETUAL TROPHIES AWARDED AT SHAWAN DOWNSCongratulations to the 2014 perpetual trophy winners at the MCTA Horse Trials at Shawan Downs! Except for the Advanced and Intermediate trophies, these are all for the best scoring MCTA members at each level, regardless of placing. At the Advanced and Intermediate levels the trophies go to the overall winners, although the Advanced winner is also an MCTA member! [This year we’re especially happy for the senior Preliminary winner, who also happens to be the volunteer who spends countless hours keeping track of MCTA’s 50+ perpetual trophies—polishing, repairing, and engraving them and getting them all to the right places at the right times.] The winners’ and their horses’ names are engraved on the trophies, the oldest of which dates to 1982, and this year the winners also received engraved p
