Videos: Past, Present and Future of Peritoneal Dialysis "Past and Future Challenges of Peritoneal Dialysis" - ISPD meeting Mexico July 2010 ASN Award Ceremony - February 2012 Tribute to Dr. Oreopoulos - 2009 Dr. Dimitrios George Oreopoulos It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Dimitrios Oreopoulos M.D.(Athens), Ph.D.(Belfast), FRCPC, FACP, FRCP(Glasgow). He passed away peacefully April 25, 2012 at Etobicoke General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born: May 24, 1936 in Alexandroupolis, Greece. Loving father, mentor, innovator, and humanitarian. Survived by his wife Nancy (nee Hooker), and father of George, Philip, Antigone, and John. Devoted ‘Papou’ to Dimitrios, Constantine, Lukas, and Nicole. Dr. Oreopoulos was a nephrologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He worked at the Toronto Western Hospital, (University Health Network) since 1969 and devoted his career to improving the lives of patients with kidney disease through the development of innovative treatments and mentorship of over 100 Nephrologists from around the world. Dr. Oreopoulos was most interested in the compassionate care of patients and founded the Humane Medicine Journal devoted to studying and writing about the ethical care of patients. His humanitarian endeavors continued in the Greek community as a former President of the Hellenic Home for the Aged (1987-1995), Greek Orthodox Education in Ontario (1996-2001), and Athens Villa (1997-2004). He carried out his work with great humility, faith in God and a strong belief in the intrinsic worth of all human beings.
