Sixteen miles of natural sandy beach, a virgin mangrove-fringed lagoon, a wonderland of coral-studded cayes, nearby jungle rivers and pristine rainforest Garifuna, Creole and Mayan cultures and ancient Mayan ruins make Placencia the ideal location for the adventure traveler!

guesthouses, and restaurants are
available from which to choose, most with access to our renowned
beaches and crystal blue waters. Slip into a hammock, relax, and
enjoy the view.

Placencia is a paradise for the nature lover in you, as its many knowledgeable guides will show you. Start by exploring the beauty of the abundance of plants and flowers, and the birds, butterflies, and iguanas they attract throughout the peninsula.

Kayak the mangroves in our tranquil lagoon and perhaps you will be lucky enough to spot the manatees that live here. And if you are one of the many adventure travelers who come to Placencia, you can do the cayes by kayak, camping along the way on the unspoiled islands that dot the horizon from there to the reef and back again.

Hire a boat down by the dock and take a trip to Monkey River where you will see our famous Howler Monkeys, Iguanas, and maybe even a Crocodile or two along the river shore.

If your pleasure is a more leisurely trip around the uncrowded waters, there are sailing options from catamarans available with or without a crew, to private sailboats for day sailing or overnights, complete with captain and catering.

A trip to Placencia is not complete without a boat ride out to the incredibly diverse cayes that lie between Placencia and Belize's Barrier Reef - second in size only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Whether your desire is to snorkel the many small reefs and flats, dive our uncrowded pristine barrier reef, fish the world-renowned salt-water flats or just relax on a white sandy beach, its an experience you won't forget.

And when you've finally exhausted all the wonderful options around the peninsula, expand your horizons by joining one of the many guided land tours offered from the village:  the nearby Mayan Ruins of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit, cave tours, or jungle trails through Cockscomb
