ABOUT US The Wisconsin Statewide Mathematics Initiative (WSMI), a program of the Brookhill Institute of Mathematics, is designed to work collaboratively with the Wisconsin mathematics education community. In June 2010, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers signed a proclamation stating that the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSSM) are now the Wisconsin Standards for Mathematics, replacing the 1998 Wisconsin Model Academic Standards. It has become clear to educators and policy makers that the rigor, connectedness, and depth of these Standards require that all teachers must have a deep understanding of the mathematics they will be teaching. Leadership from the Wisconsin Mathematics Council, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Higher Education, and K–12 Schools developed this Initiative.
