Wide Awake and Full of Words
Lovers.
I’m afraid to look at the clock. But I know it’s very late. For the third night in a row, I can’t sleep. At this point I’ve given up because in a few hours I have to head to the airport for a flight to Geneva anyway.
I’m in my hotel room in Gothenburg, listening to Górecki, who just passed away. Earlier tonight I paid tribute to him on stage with my song “Old Time Stuff”. My secret fear is that my tribute could be interpreted as more of a desecration. It’s certainly not intended that way. If you’ve never heard it, it’s on my mixtape-thing, Strong Arm. I also performed it with Symphony Nova Scotia that time. I hear some recordings of that performance are floating around on the internet…
Tonight’s show wrapped up the Scandinavian leg of my European tour with Holy Fuck (pardon my French). It was a pretty good run. Oslo, Malmö, Copenhagen, Gothenburg… All the shows were good, but Copenhagen was my favorite, I think. I’ve always had a special soft spot for Malmö. 
Whenever I’m in this part of the world, I’m always struck by how good-looking everyone is. And how much people seem to like candy. I find myself wondering about the sex lives of Scandinavians. I don’t know why… Maybe because of films like I Am Curious (Yellow) and Persona and The Idiots. And because of the sex shops and the stuff I see on TV, I suppose.
I ate so much chocolate in the last week, I’m pretty sure I have a new cavity in one of my teeth on the bottom right. The chocolate has been great, but I’m stressed about the prospect of the dentist’s chair.
I’ve had a lot of words in my head in the last few days. I’ve been writing scraps on hotel notepads. I’ll start organizing those scraps into songs in the next few days.
At the end of this trip, I’ll be spending some time in Paris – my old stomping grounds. After the show at La Fleche D’Or on the 22nd, I’ll be shooting a video for “Paper Airplane”. I don’t want to jinx it, but it looks like it may have been worked out for a well-known French actress to in it. I won’t say who just now. I’ll let you know once it’s in the can. But I’m pretty excited. I’m also expecting to hear in the next few days about the possibility of a musical collaboration with a big French artist. My fingers are crossed so tight it hurts. I’ll also be spending some time with my dear friend, Damien Odoul. We’re working on a few ideas. A few years ago, we got together for this (rated x):
