Shedding? Not a lot... Most cat breeds are born with two types of hair that make up their coats of fur. We're all used to the straight-stiff (stagy) hair that makes up most of the coat that we see and feel - some call this Guard hair. However, you turn the cat over and you see and feel that the hair on their belly is this really soft, almost downy type. This soft hair actually covers the entire body of the cat, we just don't see it on top. The unique thing about Devon and all Rex breeds is that they are born without the straight stiff "Guard" hair, so all you see and feel is this wonderfully soft, downy, curly fuzz. Some fans of these breeds liken the look to that of a Poodle. The fact is that Rex cats shed very little of this fuzz. Since the shed hair is in most cases the vehicle for distrubuting allergy-inducing dander in the house, there's not much of it, if any, at all. The shedding you might see will remind you of "dust-bunnies", or cottonballs. Because of this lack of an effective distribution mechanism for dander, most folks with with dander-related allergy problems can tolerate a Rex in the house, while they cannot a normal-coated cat. More and more people with allergy problems are turning to the Devon or other Rex breeds with great satisfaction.
