A decision on whether to continue this site next season will be made in the late summer or early autumn. It will either be continued, archived, or deleted. A huge thanks goes out to those who have helped with and supported this site over the past eighteen years! Talk About It! With more than a half million posts since 2000 and over 17,000 registered users, Mitch Hawker's High School Hockey Forums is the premier place to talk about hockey in Minnesota. What's In A Name? For the purpose of brevity, a number of teams have shortened names listed both on the scores page and on the PageStat pages. Not wanting to offend any schools who deserve recognition, you can see which schools comprise these co-op schools state-wide. A Brief Overview This site is an attempt to pay tribute to the 150+ teams which play boys' high school hockey in Minnesota. I've been around long enough to see some great teams from the past; International Falls, Greenway, Grand Rapids, Edina, Bloomington Jefferson, Duluth East, Roseau and many others who have left their footprint on the high school scene in this great state. Other teams such as the Eveleth dynasty in the late 40's and early 50's, predate me. It would have been incredible to see some of those teams play. Many of my childhood memories center around sitting in a near-trance in front of our family television each March, watching the eight teams compete for the state tournament championship. Since I grew up (and still live) in N.E. Minnesota, I learned one lesson early on...you root for anyone but Twin Cities teams, when you live up north. When an Iron Range or Duluth area team would defeat a Twin Cities team, we'd go nuts. Which didn't happen very often during the lean years of the late '70's through the late '80's. The resurgence of Duluth East's and Moorhead's programs in the early 1990's made them a force to be reckoned with, once again. When it comes to comparing high school hockey to other levels (primarily pro and college), my preference lies strongly with the high school level. It's not even close. These kids aren't paid to play. The Minnesota High School league never chose to cancel an entire season (hear that, NHL?). Given the choice, I'd rather watch Duluth East play Cloquet (or Grand Rapids) at the Heritage Arena than drive down to the Xcel Energy Center to see the Wild play!
