NYC - NOLA Saturday Sunday Monday Sat July 20th, 2013 NYC --> NJ --> TN 12am to 3pm (15 hours) Lots of Road It's a long road from New York to New Orleans. We're getting lunch in Nashville on the way to our hotel in Atlanta. 12 hours of driving. We start off 3 hours late because Jason decided to get Cronuts in the morning and not take his car to work. 4 Red Bulls. A double rainbow and a freak downpour. Pit stop at a McDonald's in Virginia for breakfast at 7am, feeling tired and disgusting. Picked up Tim in NJ. Began with the biscuits - small but dense, soft and fluffy. They came with strawberry, grape, and peach? preserves made by the cafe that give the biscuits the perfect not too overpoweringly sweet/tangy taste. This place could probably sell nothing but biscuits and still be in business. Waited about two hours outside with a crowd of other people. Good sign. Ordered smothered chicken and blueberry waffles, both of which were pretty good. Side of collard greens and mac and cheese, which were better. Cornbread was just right. Jason's chicken wings were the best - four fried chicken wings and a waffle, dubbed the "Midnight Train". This place has a cafeteria/deli sort of feel. We tried ordering three different po'boy sandwiches but ended up getting two sandwiches and a seafood gumbo. Took it to our hotel, checked in, tucked in. Got the "Famous Ferdi Special" - baked ham, roast beef, debris, gravy. more photos Expand / Comment Mon July 22nd, 2013 New Orleans, LA 11:00am Beignets and Po Boys Cafe du Monde 800 Decatur St New Orleans, LA 70116 5045254544 Decided to start the day off with some Beignets from Cafe du Monde. Was expecting some degree of wait time but there was plenty of seating and the waitstaff took our orders quickly. All the waitstaff were viet, or at least asian. Ordered one plate of beignets and frozen coffees. The beignets are great, though to me they just taste like richer, creamier zeppoles. The experience is about the same, too. You end up sending up a cloud of delicious white dust with every bite. Real easy way to look like a baker, especially if you're wearing darker clothes. Delicious, but nothing amazingly special.
