Ohio Special Education Research Project Implementation of Successful Practices for Students with Disabilities in Ohio School Conducted by the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities Funded by the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children Ohio Schools are in a period of major redesign of curricular and instructional processes. Students with disabilities are central to the success of these efforts, and this context of change provides opportunities to move the overall system of special education in the direction of improved results. The purpose of this Special Education Research Project is to identify the practices that shape improved levels of achievement of students with disabilities. It began with an extensive Literature Review of evidence-based practices to identify the most current findings of successful school, district and state-level implementation. A comparative case-study design was implemented with sample school districts. Onsite visitations of selected schools were conducted by a research team with well-designed protocols. An online teacher survey followed the onsite visits to gather information from the classroom perspective. A Final Report of findings and recommendations was prepared that includes eight recommendations for practice and nine recommendations for further research. The entire project is summarized in condensed Executive Summary format.
