We meet monthly to share our love of stitching and welcome all who share our passion, from beginners to needlepoint designers. You may work on the current program or bring your own stitching project to work on during the meeting. We offer workshops with nationally known designers and open stitching opportunities (unstructured hours of stitching and great conversation with like minded people). We welcome new members, experienced needlepoint stitchers or those ready to learn a new skill. The benefits of membership include: A monthly newsletter Reduced costs for many exciting workshops taught by some of the country's top needlepoint designers. San Diego City Seal The official seal of the City of San Diego was designed by Carlton Monroe Winslow in 1924 and adapted for needlepoint by Judy Winslow Bullock. From 1994-98, the San Diego Chapter of ANG stitched the City Seal, beginning with a smaller prototype. The prototype was used to develop the types of stitches and the threads that would be used on the larger official seal. The American Needlepoint Guild gave the chapter a grant to complete the project. The final version was presented to the City in 1998 during the annual American Needlepoint Guild Seminar held at Hotel Del Coronado. The center shield represents the city's natural resources such as the ocean and agricultura as well as the Spanish settlement and aircraft industries. The Carmeline Belfry represents the Franciscan missions. The "Pillars of Hercules" are used as reminders of the Spanish influences. The dolphins at the base were adapted from the Panama-Pacific California Exposition coat of arms, symbolizing the two oceans united by the Panama Canal. Finally, the motto is "Semper Vigilans" or "Ever Vigilant." San Diego Fair We will be demonstrating needlework at the Fair. Click here to see our exhibit.
