The Association collects and preserves archival material and artifacts pertinent to the County's history. In cooperation and collaboration with other local organizations, the Association promotes an understanding of and appreciation for the County's rich history through publications, exhibits, and programs. The SLCHA operates within museum standards established by the American Alliance of Museums. World War I Articles and Information Wanted for SLCHA’s Quarterly Journal U.S. soldier & Canadian "Kiltie" Library of Congress August 2014 marked the centennial of the outbreak of World War I and the Historical Association wants to recognize the local contributions to the war effort as well as its impact on local families. The SLCHA’s publication committee invites readers to submit articles or materials showing St Lawrence County residents’ involvement in World War I. News clippings, letters home, photos, and other documents can be carefully copied and the original materials returned to their lenders. If you think you may have something useful, contact County Historian Sue Longshore. The Quarterly, published by the St Lawrence County Historical Association, is currently wrapping up its sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War this year. The cover of the December 2015 issue displays a young man in a Civil War uniform… or is it? Some clever research has answered questions about the photo, but more remain. Corning Incorporated Foundation Supports SLCHA The St Lawrence County Historical Association has been awarded a grant of $2,000 from Corning Incorporated Foundation in support of its history journal, The Quarterly. Sue Longshore, SLCHA Executive Director says, "We are very pleased to receive this grant, which helps to support the publication of the Quarterly and allows us to share the county's history with a large audience." Corning Incorporated Foundation has provided grant funding for the publication of the Quarterly journal since 2012, and continues to be a generous supporter of St Lawrence County history.
