Found in the Bedfordshire countryside, there are plenty of activities for adults and children alike. One of the reasons that there are so many activities located in Leighton Buzzard is due to the fact that today the town is technically Leighton-Linslade and is composed of two towns that were merged together. However, most people still refer to the area as Leighton Buzzard since most attractions are located on the Leighton Buzzard side of the town. The area is known for moving into the 21st century while taking special care to preserve the historical character of the area which many of the main attractions are built on. For example, the Heritage Trail which starts in the town centre is a wonderful way to experience the most historical features of the town as it leads walkers along a path that includes several churches and other areas of interest in the area. Hosted within the town are several community markets that take place regularly throughout the week for both locals and visitors. The High Street in particular is the place to head for an open market at which all types of goods can be purchased for decent prices. The area is also lined with plenty of independent shops which are often great finds since the owners can advise you on where to stop during a stay in the area. Those who want more commercial shopping opportunities can head about ten minutes away from High Street to either of the two city centres where there are plenty of chain stores and recognizable retail outlets. These areas also boasts many pubs and restaurants as well as quaint cafes. Another area of interest to visitors is the historic Leighton Buzzard Railway which is usually accessed from Page’s Park Station. Here there are dozens of steam engines that can be toured and a museum that takes visitors through the artefacts of the old steam station. The Leighton Buzzard Railway is one of the only two foot gauge railway lines that are still operational today and five days a week visitors can take a steam engine ride alongside the old line. There is also a large children’s play park located at Page’s Park station as well. Another great stop while on holiday in the area is the Mead Open Farm which is a nationally recognized animal park that allows visitors to pet and feed all types of farm animals from cows to horses to sheep. Within the park there is also a play park for children that is composed of about a dozen slides, climbing areas, ball ponds, and more. Visitors can also take part in the sheep races, go karts, and a miniature golf course among dozens of other activities that are unique to the area.
